Ultralight aircraft were originally made from hang gliders. Small engines, very similar to those seen in chainsaws, powered these. Ultralight aircraft have now developed into specially designed aircraft, which weigh very little and require low power. Despite their lightweight looks and feel, the flight experience is similar to conventional light aircraft. They are intended mainly for the pleasure of flying, although advanced models are now available. In Europe or South America, ultralight aircraft are often called microlights or microlite aircraft. In Canada, they are referred to as amateur built aircraft or experimental and advanced aircraft.
